This will most likely be one of my last posts for a while as I leave the classroom after nearly a decade, and venture into the position of Technology Enabled Learning & Teaching Contact for the SMCDSB. This position will enable me to foster my love for technology in education. More specifically, it will allow me to share my passion with fellow educators, administrators, and students across various levels. Below is a letter I have given to all of my current students. I will most likely leave the blog up for another few weeks before taking it down. Finally, there is a video embedded below that truly sums up many of my current thought processes, and reason, for deciding to leave the classroom. As always, thank you for your kind words of support, and I am sure that I will see many of you around through my travels.
Dear Parents and Students,
It is with a heavy heart that I must inform you that I will be leaving next week, for a new technology based position at the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic board office. It is a tremendous opportunity for myself on a professional level, where I will be able to coach teachers around the board with different methods of using technology in the classroom, blended learning/e-learning, and guide them using various 21st century teaching strategies.
I have greatly enjoyed teaching this group of learners and also working with the parents to create the positive, cooperative, and faith-filled learning environment that has developed throughout the year. This is truly a great class, and I feel blessed to have been able to teach them.
Rest assured, the administration is working diligently to find a competent replacement teacher to take over for the remainder of the year. Mr. Ellis, the other grade 8 teacher at St. Angela Merici, will be taking the lead on our Grade 8 Graduation trip to Ottawa, Graduation in June, and he will continue to work tirelessly with Holy Trinity High School to ensure a smooth transition for all grade 8 students.
Thank you for your support throughout the year. Together, we have truly created meaningful learning opportunities for the students.
Yours in Catholic Education,
